Uninstalling unused programs and removing files you don’t need can free up your memory and speed up your PC. But it can be frustrating to figure out for yourself and you might be afraid you’ll screw something up. I’ll come in and sit with you and walk you through this process, and do other PC optimization techniques along the way. After a thorough cleaning, your computer will be two to twenty times faster! Virus and Spyware detection/removal Viruses, spyware, and adware can be nasty side effects to using the Internet. Fortunately these problems can be cured if they are caught early enough. I can run a scan and fix any problems as soon as you notice something is amiss. I will also give you tips and advice on how to avoid being infected in the future. Average Time: 1-4 hours Depending on whether you have any virus or spyware.
Software Installation and Recommendations Did you buy some new software and can't figure out how to set it up properly? Would you like to try free, open source alternatives to the high priced flashy software? I can install and configure whichever application you need on your home PC to do the things you want to do. Hardware Upgrades Nearly all computers that you buy from the local electronic stores are upgradeable. Do you wish your computer could run a little faster? Extra memory, or RAM, can speed things up tremendously. Do you enjoy playing video games? A new video card can vastly improve your gaming experience. Are you running out of space for all of your music, photos, or movies? Never run out of space again with a new 320GB hard drive! Backup Your Files One thing is for certain... your PC's hard drive will eventually CRASH one day and you could possibly lose everything on your computer if you aren't prepared. The average hard drive will crash after 5 years. So........ you should back up your files as often as possible! If you've never done this, or it's long overdue, I will back up your important documents, photos and other data on to CD or DVD using your PC's CD/DVD burner. Everything will be explained to you along the way, so if you're technically inclined you can learn to back up your files, contacts and settings on your own as well. Backup discs are provided for you if required.
If your data is very important and valuable, your best option will be to purchase an external hard drive and setup automatic backups on a daily or weekly basis. I can help you set everything up so that you won't ever have to lose valuable data again. Average Time: (Depending on amount of data to backup) 1.5 to 3 Hours Reinstall Windows After a long time running Windows and using the internet, the clutter that accumulates on your computer can be overwhelming. Sometimes a clean-up and system optimization won't be enough to restore your computer to a responsive and comfortable state. Reinstalling Windows will give you a fresh start, and your computer will be fast and efficient once again. I will bring a portable hard drive to back up your files before the reinstallation so you won't lose any important data, reinstall windows to the default settings, and install the addons and updates required to bring your system up-to-date. Please make sure you have a valid Windows CD Key for this service (Usually located on a sticker on the computer case), as Microsoft can be a stickler for the "Windows Genuine Advantage". Assemble Your New Computer When you purchase a new computer setting up the cables, wireless options and peripherals can be a confusing process. I can show you how to recognize the different connections and where they all go while I plug everything in to it's proper place. I can also help you control cable clutter so that your desk doesn't appear to have cables and wires all over the place. Average Time: 1 Hour
